About

About StrainTrackr

A strain genetics database for home growers. Every figure on a strain page was read from the page of the breeder that bred it, and links back there. Nothing is estimated, and nothing is copied from another database.

The rule

One rule, no exceptions

Every row is specifications published by the breeder that bred the strain, read from that breeder's own page, with the source URL on the row.

That one rule is the whole design. It rules out the easy path for practical reasons:

  • Aggregator descriptions are somebody's copyrighted prose.

The open strain datasets in circulation are review-site write-ups with the credit line still attached. Shipping them is a takedown waiting to happen, and they say nothing about which breeder's cut you are holding.

  • Seed shops are not the source.

A shop lists many breeders' genetics, goes out of date, and disappears. The breeder who made the cross is the primary source for what it does, and their page is still there when the shop is not.

  • A missing field is not a zero.

If a breeder does not publish CBD, the row has no CBD. Filling gaps with a plausible number turns a catalog into fiction, and a filter can no longer tell "unknown" from "none".

Three tiers

How the data works

A higher tier outranks a lower one for the same field.

  1. Breeder's own website

What we read today. Every row links to the breeder page it was read from.

  2. Lab results (COAs)

Coming. Uploaded lab reports will outrank breeder claims for the fields they cover, and say so on the row.

  3. Nothing else

No aggregator copy, no estimates, no AI-written text. A value the breeder never published is left blank.

Boundaries

What we do not do

  • No AI-written descriptions. The only prose on a strain page is the breeder's own cross, quoted.
  • No estimated THC. If the breeder did not publish a figure, the field is empty and the strain drops out of THC filters.
  • No bulk terpene profiles. A terpene is listed only where a breeder or a lab report names it.
  • No seed sales. We link to the breeder; we do not sell, resell or take a cut.
  • No selling user data. Rate limiting runs in our own database so nobody else sees who searched for what.
  • No paid rankings. Sorting is by name, figure, date or views. Nobody can buy a position.

Live counts

Data coverage

Across 19,755 listed strains. A low number means breeders did not publish it, not that we skipped it.

Corrections

Report wrong data

Every strain page has a "Report a data error" form at the bottom. We re-read the breeder page and correct the row if it disagrees. You can also email jberardi@gmail.com.

FAQ

Questions

Is it free?
Yes. Browsing, comparing and the API are free. There is no account and nothing to sign up for.
Is there an API?
Yes. Anonymous reads are allowed, and a key raises the limit. See the API docs.
How do I claim my breeder profile?
Pick your profile on the for breeders page and verify from your domain email, Instagram account or a DNS record. Verified breeders get a badge and can have data fixed within 48 hours.
Where does the data come from?
From each breeder's own website, read page by page. The source URL is on every row, and the strain page shows how the page was read: structured product data, page text, or entered by hand.
